Loss Leaders, Trojan Horses, and Reverse Lead Magnets. Steal these.  ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏

Phone, do you remember when I said there were 3 secrets?

I used to remember productive seasons as if every day in them had been focused and impressive. Looking back at old calendars cured me of that idea. The best stretches were full of ordinary days, missed plans, short work sessions, and tasks that took twice as long as they should have. What made those seasons good was not perfection. It was returning. After a distracted morning, I came back in the afternoon. After a rough week, I started again on Monday without turning the setback into a new identity. That pattern matters because most goals are too large to be completed by motivation alone. They need a way to survive the days when motivation is absent. For me, that means making the next action obvious and small enough to begin. Open the document, review the notes, send the one message, or fix the first broken piece. Starting creates information, and information makes the next decision easier. I have also learned to be careful with comparison. We tend to see another person's finished result beside our unfinished middle, then wonder why our own work feels so untidy. The comparison leaves out all the quiet repetition that produced what we admire. Remembering that helps me stay with my own pace. There are times to push harder and times to rest, but neither choice needs a dramatic story attached to it. A day can simply be a day. Do the part that fits, take care of what needs care, and return tomorrow. The results I value most were built that way, through many hours that did not feel important while they were happening. Their value became visible only after enough of them were placed next to each other.

Well we just covered the first one in the last email. Cold Email. Once you’ve figured out how to get qualified leads on autopilot, you will need secret #2.

Here’s the truth that no entrepreneur wants to hear - Your offer is lame.

It’s okay, so is mine. Most of our offers are just not that sexy.

But us online marketers have a few secret tricks we use to stand out in competitive markets.

Here’s the duck sauce:

1- Loss Leaders: Know why Costco sells $5 Rotisserie chickens? They lose money on these chickens to get customers to walk to the back of their store. If you run a boring PR agency, you can sell a single article at-cost to get the EASY YES. Then selling your backend offer becomes easier.

2- Trojan Horse: Avoid starting with a sales conversation. Instead, enter into a dialog as a partner, a potential buyer, or someone they are interested in talking to. For example, in our PR firm we built a news publication and we use it to approach prospects as a journalist first.

3- Lead Magnets: I’m not talking about PDFs. In the Insiders, we use Reverse Lead Magnets. We open with “Would it be okay to spend 1-2 hours and do X for you?” and we use automated fulfillment to deliver value.

Your offer is the MOST IMPORTANT thing in your business, so you need to get it right. I go DEEP on offers in our Lead Gen Insiders program. When you join, you’ll be able to get 1-1 coaching calls with my team and unlimited group coaching with me to fully dial in your offer.

If you’re interested you can learn more about our Insiders program here.

Your friend,

-Jay
